The Group

The main research interests are:

  • basic studies on thermodynamic equilibria existing in ceramic systems, and
  • its practical application to the synthesis, processing, and prediction and design of properties and performance of ceramic materials.

The Group has more than 40 years experience in researches related to Phase Equilibrium Diagrams of ceramics, and over 20 years on Phase Equilibrium Diagrams of bioceramics for bone engineering. More over, the group cumulates more than 10 years of experience in the use of techniques based on diffraction of synchrotron and neutron radiation for real time studies of solid state reactions and phase equilibria and transformation mechanisms.

Basic R&D activities are funded by Projects from National and Regional funding Programs.

Applied Research is funded either by governmental funds through CDTI, PROFIT, or PETRI Projects, or by the industry (through direct contracts with manufacturing companies of ceramics, refractories, glass, cement, steel, energy, etc.).

The Group is intensively involved in several collaboration actions inscribed in the Framework Programs of the European Union, and bilateral agreements with institutions from other European and Ibero-American countries.

It is the only research Group with this profile in Spain.
